LAKE PALACE UDAIPUR 24TH JUNE 2 PM

Udaipur- Lake Palace, it’s always a pleasure coming to this one of the most beautiful hotel . What made this visit more memorable was staff along with Mr Parveen Chander General Manager waiting to receive us with all smiles.. By now the news has spread in Taj about the rally and the purpose behind it and I could see associates enthused about the whole idea. They look forward to the car, actually what they look forward is that they can share their thoughts so freely. This is what happened when we all interacted in the cafeteria. I normally give a small talk on the whole purpose behind this rally wherever I go but I was so happy to hear colleagues freely talking about how they love Taj, What they feel about the whole drive. Chef Sameer shared how he feels Taj as a family and prefers Taj to his earlier employers . I loved when everybody clapped on this. The Spirit of Taj was at its best and everyone had something to say about their support , gratitude in the wake of 26/11.
Parveen arranged a meeting with His Highness Arvind Singh Ji Marwar and he enquired about the drive and its purpose. A quick 5 minute meeting with him and I was motivated to do more..
Some print and electronic media too covered this and I was happy to share my experiences so far explaining the purpose to them. Its One India One Taj a message of togetherness..
A very satisfying day, started at 5 in the morning and finished at 11 at night with great memories and much stronger will to complete this rally.
Thanks Parveen for arranging so many staff, guest, media interactions...
looking forward to the next day destination Sawai Madhopur 440 Kms from here but I believe the roads are pretty good.

time to sleep and gain some energy for tomorrow....

I can sense a wave of support and messages pouring in for the rally from cross section of employees, friends, guests and colleagues.

JAISALMER TO UDAIPUR 24TH JUNE 6 AM TO 2 PM

Early morning at 5 30 at the lobby of Rawal kot, a cup of hot tea and me, Amit who accompanied me from Umaid Bhavan and Chef Rathore,we were ready to leave for a 550 km drive to Udaipur. But we were more excited to drive back on the Jaisalmer - Jodhpur road. This was truly like playing play station!!
9 am at Jodhpur and then off to Udaipur. Chef Rathore who hails from this area had lots of great stories about all the temples which came on the way. Rajasthan at its best – crowded infact over crowded buses and vans is a common site.

And if there is no traffic on the road then beware about sudden herds of sheep which will come on the road and all you can do is stop and wait for them to cross. We were driving comfortably on the high way and what a site in front of us all sudden,. About 500 cows running from one side to the other as if there is a war somewhere..

We stopped at Raunakpur Temples on the way to visit this very popular Temple. What I like about stopping is interacting with people around you. We spent more time at the parking lot explainng to people about our car rally, messages on the car than visiting temple. I guess that’s the purpose-spreading the message of peace all over.
It is an experience travelling from one Taj hotel to the other Taj hotel with Incredible India to see on the way....

THE GATEWAY HOTEL, JAISALMER 23RD JUNE 12 NOON

We were greeted at the gate of the hotel by Hukum Singh, hotel's security guard playing his flute so melodiously as if he is conveying a message of peace, harmony and tranquility. Amazing One India One Taj - A drive for peace conveys the same. Its amazing to hear words of support, love for their job from staff here . Truely The SPIRIT OF TAJ is in its PEOPLE.

We were greedy to see more of this beautiful land. The hotel was organizing an outdoor for Canadian group staying in the hotel in Sand dunes 50 kms away from here. Our car too followed them and there we were in midst of camels, sand dunes, desert. The drive too here was just amazing with clear view of the sky and the ground below. We were just 60 kms away from Pakistan border and I just felt like taking my car across the border probably they need a message of peace more than us. People of this remote village could identify the picture of Taj Mahal put on my car and started talking about it...Amazing....
tomorrow we drive to Udaipur..what a contrast from real desert to city of lakes...
again
Incredible India for you......

This is Incredible India for You at its best........

I will be back for sure.....

JODHPUR - JAISALMER DRIVE-AN EXPERIENCE

Since we were to go to the heart of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer and dreading hot sun and soaring temeperature, we started early at 9 am for 300 kms steatch. Trust me this was the best drive of my life. Th eroad was just perfect with not mimal but almost no traffic. And to our surprise weather Gods were kind to us with clouds covering the hot sun a cool breeze flowing from north to South. Though I know " Speed thrills but Kills"but you just can't help but press the accelator tothe maximum. We covered the 300 kms distance in 3 hours time reaching our hotel at 12 noon. For first time i thought why it has come so early? I leave behind memories of scenic beauty of sand dunes, vast barren land, small rocky hills, cute little villages, historical Pokharan town, cattle grazing around looking for grass, in my mind and reach yet another beautiful hotel called The Gateway Hotel Rawal Kot.
Waiting for the drive back tomorrow:)

UMAID BHAWAN PALACE 22ND JUNE 6 PM

Driving into Umaid Bhavan is a totally different feeling. The magnificient architecture of the Palace standing tall on the hill top, elates you to a level above the normal. As I drove in I had a tradional welcome by staff followed by a good talk with Hod's along with Mr Ashish Kumar General Manager Umaid Bhawan. Since he was in mumbai during the terror attack he spoke about his experiences how difficult it was for the staff during that time. We obsereved 2 minutes silence in the wake of 26/11 victimsThe " We Stand Togeher " poster was put in lobby and lot of guests came forward with their solidarity messages and wishing me good luck for the drive. I was touched when Rani Sahiba Hem lata Raje and Rani sheetal kanwar owner of Rawal Kot Jaisalmer called me and spoke to me about how they felt during 26/11. She wrote her message in the message book and interacted very warmly with me enquiring about my drive around India.Indeed it was a great feeling to have wishes from the Royal Family too...............

A MEMEORABLE EXPERIENCE ON ROAD 22ND JUNE

We were driving very comfortably to Jodhpur. the waether was not that hot but traffic a bit bad on certain streatch of road. It was lunch time and we were hungry too. though we pack water and small eats from every hotel but need to streatch and come out of the car. More so the car too needs rest. To opur surprise the weather Gods took a U turn, clouds came in, started drizzling, and a cool wind hit us. we decided to stop and take this fresh breadth of air from Rajasthan.
I stopped the car at a place called Lotus Restaurant on highway. Seeing the car decked up the owners of the restaurant and some guests knoew these people are on some mission. we were greeted warmly and people started asking us about the trip. and I love talking about it .
they know the Taj very well since we have a strong hold in Rajasthan. but they came up with very strong messages on terror and how India should fight back.
I used to think I am very passionate about whatever i do until I met the Khatri family who runs this beautiful restaurant.father and his 3 sons were genuine about everything they do and that too with smile. we were treated like Head of state guests getting us the best table people surrounding us asking us what we want to eat?
then came the best part...every family memeber has a passion of doing something . The father got me a 60 year old Gramaphone which runs with a manual handle and you were required to have a license to keep that . He actually made me listen to this old track kept his box on my table and it was like entertainment on my table. I too played my Jumbe and we had a jam session with guests joining us.It was amazing.....I just can't express....
the second son showed his hobby. He collects old currency notes with unique numbers on the notes. He showed me currency worth 50-60000 with all amazing numbers. he says he checks all his collection everyday and whenever he finds any interetsing numbers they preserve it. this is happenning from last 20 years every single day.( see photographs)
the youngest son was so passionte about his restaurant he showed me every part of it.
one more son left and i asked him what do you do ? He says I don't drink but "I collect miniature bottles of liquor I have spend close to 1.5 lakhs on them whenever i go to Dubai"
i was bowled over by the hospitality. The food was good too... simple Yellow day malai sev and garm garm rotis.
when I asked for the bill the father says how can we take money from you? our best wishes are there with you. I was touched. i insisted on paying and like a true punjabi I won the battle. But like a true Sindhi he packed gifts for me. I tell you some community can't change....
I would stop at this resataurant whenever I will cross this place. i know for sure. the connect was very humane...
1 hour was worth it to cherish this for years to come....

wishing us good luck, photo session and were off to Jodhpur.
Thats people of India for you...atithi devo bhava....
